A quote from David Stevenson's article on psyches: " Psyches are legal.
They can be fun, and it is sad that some people get upset by them. It is much
better to remember the saying: "Don't get mad get even."
As a club we do allow psyches, but we are aware that members do get annoyed
when a psyche is made against them - that is human nature. Loddon Vale Bridge
Club is known for its friendly spirit as well as for its high standard of bridge,
and when this spirit is threatened in any way we defend those who have been
offended.
In order to monitor the frequency of psychic bids, we ask that the offender
writes up the hand together with the bidding sequence in the club Psyche Book.
The director would have been made aware of the occurrence before hand.
Should any member feel the urge to psyche, your committee would hope that he
would choose to do it against more experienced players. We would consider it
bad etiquette to use this style against newcomers to the game or the club.
Frivolous psyching which can occur when a couple have lost interest in the
competition is of course unacceptable, together with any subsequent gloating.
We would ask you to save your psychic urges for the congresses and more serious
events, and to leave our club evenings for members of all ability to enjoy a
pleasant evening's bridge.
